The front tires are the ones that make way for the rears, especially in the wet in a straight line. And it's the front that steers the vehicle. On rear drive vehicles, all the rear tires do is push the vehicle. The fronts do all the steering and that's where you want the grip. On front drive vehicles, the front tires do everything, so that's a given. But all in all, it's the control of direction that you want.
